29–30 November 2025

Malaysian Health Qigong Association (MHQA) Successfully Organised Health Qigong · Baduanjin Training Programme and Grading & Duan Examinations

To actively encourage community sports instructors and volunteers to engage in scientific fitness guidance, continuously enhance teaching quality, and build a higher-level public service system for Health Qigong, the Malaysian Health Qigong Association (MHQA) had successfully organised the Health Qigong · Baduanjin Technique Training Programme, Introductory Instructor Training Course, and Health Qigong Grading and Duan Examination on 29–30 November 2025 at INTI International University.

The core mission of this programme was to promote the concept of scientific fitness. Its objectives included: systematically enhancing the theoretical understanding and technical proficiency of Health Qigong Baduanjin instructors; improving overall public health and fostering harmonious physical and mental development; cultivating participants’ scientific understanding of Health Qigong; and strengthening awareness of standardised teaching and professional development.

The Association also clearly stated that, in the future, sports science principles and systematic training mechanisms will be progressively introduced. Through a tiered and standardised approach, MHQA aims to promote the professionalisation, standardisation, and sustainable development of Health Qigong, while encouraging more enthusiasts to participate in teaching, research, and promotional activities.

On the same day, activities included Health Qigong technical assessments, Health Qigong · Baduanjin introductory instructor teaching assessments, and written examinations. Upon completion of the training, certificates were awarded to participants who successfully passed the assessments, followed by a group photo session.

The training and assessments were conducted by members of the Association’s Development Committee, ensuring a professional and rigorous process.

Lead Lecturers and Trainers:

   • Dr. Chan Kok Kiong (Melaka Health Qigong Development Sub Committee)

   • Mr. Tan Boon Seng (Vice Chairman, Melaka Health Qigong Development Sub Committee)

   • Mr. Ng Chee Seong (Chairman, Negeri Sembilan Health Qigong Development Sub Committee)

Assessment and Review Panel:

   • Dr. Chan Kok Kiong

   • Mr. Ng Chee Seong

   • Ms. Cheong Chu Fong

The activities on 30 November were held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the INTI University Sports Hall, focusing on Health Qigong technical assessments and duan grading examinations. The grading covered Pre-Duan Level 1 to Junior Duan Level 2.

Participants included members of the Chinese community, Malays, and other ethnic groups, fully reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of Health Qigong in Malaysia.

This allowed participants to clearly understand the gap between their current performance and the duan system standards, further motivating them to continuously improve both movement accuracy and cultivation quality.

In addition, the organisers introduced a Grading Motivation and Commendation Award to recognise participants who demonstrated rigorous performance and a serious learning attitude during the assessments.

Malaysian Health Qigong Association Celebrates “World Health Qigong Day”

Balancing Heritage and Innovation, Showcasing the Harmony of Culture and Health

The 9th World Health Qigong Day 2025 was celebrated simultaneously across 56 countries and regions worldwide, featuring a continuous 24-hour global showcase highlighting the diversity and vitality of Health Qigong. In conjunction with this global celebration, the Malaysian Health Qigong Association (MHQA) held a grand commemorative event on 7 September at Lucky Palace Restaurant Melaka.

The event was initiated by the International Health Qigong Federation, organised by the Malaysian Health Qigong Association, and undertaken by the Melaka Health Qigong Development Sub Committee.

This year’s celebration stood out from previous editions with the introduction of a special “Health & Culture Exhibition”, featuring the participation of renowned local calligraphers and painters. By integrating the art of calligraphy and painting with the traditional culture of Health Qigong, the exhibition added a unique cultural dimension to the event. It highlighted the rich heritage and innovative spirit of Health Qigong, with exhibited works demonstrating both deep cultural significance and high artistic and collectible value. A Health Qigong photo-check-in commemorative station was set up for guests on the day of the event.

The opening ceremony was officiated by YB Tuan Kerk Chee Yee, Deputy Speaker of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly and State Assemblyman for Ayer Keroh. The event also received strong support from sponsors and community leaders. Members of the MHQA, together with distinguished guests, gathered to witness this meaningful occasion.

Health Qigong in Malaysia has now entered its fourth phase of development. Beyond nationwide promotion, the Association has expanded its reach into schools, healthcare institutions, corporate organisations, and community settings, forming a structured and systematic development framework.

For this celebration, several primary schools from Melaka—Si Tian Primary School, Wen Hua Primary School, Yok Bin Primary School, Malim Primary School, and Notre Dame Convent School—were specially invited to present engaging performances, including Children’s Campus Wu Qin Xi Qi (primary School Version), and a Health Qigong Spinal Balance Exercise Prescription presented by Klinik Kesihatan Warga Emas Serdang, Selangor.

Participants from various states, local centres, and senior communities also actively took part, presenting Health Qigong Dance and Health Qigong Exercise Prescription programmes, vividly demonstrating the spirit of sport for all.

Following the remarkable performances by students and community participants, the event welcomed a special international delegation from the Qigong Shi Ba Shi Association Singapore (@Qigong18A). With over 70 members, the delegation travelled specially to Melaka to celebrate World Health Qigong Day together with the Malaysian Health Qigong Association. This cross-border exchange not only showcased the international appeal of Health Qigong but also further strengthened cultural interaction and friendly ties between Malaysia and Singapore, injecting new momentum into regional cooperation.

The programme continued with a flag presentation ceremony for the international competition delegation. The athletes receiving the flag will represent Malaysia at the 3rd International Traditional Sports Health Qigong Competition, to be held in Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, China. The audience responded with warm applause, offering their best wishes and encouragement to the delegation.

The President of the Malaysian Health Qigong Association stated that through a series of nationwide competitions, grading and ranking systems, and campus promotion programmes, the Association will continue to systematically advance the development of Health Qigong across education, healthcare, corporate sectors, and society at large. The celebration of World Health Qigong Day not only highlighted the health benefits of Health Qigong, but also underscored the vitality and ongoing transmission of excellent traditional Chinese culture in Malaysia.

To promote the professionalization and standardization of Health Qigong teaching, the Malaysian Health Qigong Association organized a Health Qigong Technical Assessment and Duan (Rank) Evaluation on June 15, 2025. The event attracted over 90 enthusiastic participants from Melaka, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, and Johor. The assessment covered levels from Pre-Duan 1, 2, 3 to Duan 1 and Duan 2 (formal ranks).

Participating Qigong stations included:

Melaka-K7, Melaka-BS9, Selangor-Eco Majestic, Selangor-Klang SP, Negeri Sembilan-S2, Johor-BPT Joy, Melaka-Humanities & Buddhism Station, Selangor-GHHS, HKL, Johor-BPT-Bdr Putera Indah, Selangor-Puchong Tempua, Selangor-Serdang Raya, Johor-BPT-Tian Mau, Kuala Lumpur-BK Jalil, S’ban Zizaifang, Jhr-BPT Chee Teong, S’ban Rimbun Vista, S’gor PJS3 / Tmn Buana.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr. Chan Kok Kiong, Chairman of the Melaka Health Qigong Development Sub-Committee. In his speech, Dr. Chan emphasized that Health Qigong not only helps in regulating body and mind and preventing chronic diseases, but also requires a systematic, unified, and professional teaching system. He gave a concise summary of the key theoretical insights from the June 14 Six Healing Sounds (health qigong Liu Zi Jue) training, and called upon all stations nationwide to enhance standardization and discipline in their teaching efforts.

During the theory session, several experienced instructors shared their insights:

• Mr. Lim Ming Fang (Chairperson of the Johor Health Qigong Development Sub-Committee) delivered a comprehensive analysis in Chinese of common mistakes in Health Qigong Liu Zi Jue and correction methods, drawing from both official textbooks and his years of practical teaching experience. He stressed the importance of precision in movement standards.

→ Following Mr. Lim’s explanation, Mr. Tan Poh Sen station head(PJS 3/Taman Buana)conducted a live demonstration of “Health Qigong Liu Zi Jue.Core Movements,” highlighting both standard and common incorrect techniques. This demonstration provided participants with a visual reference for movement specifications and evaluation criteria, helping them clearly recognize typical mistakes often overlooked during practice.

• Ms. Ho Sau Lai (Retired Principal from Taman Desa, KL) provided English explanations to help participants from diverse backgrounds understand the core technical requirements of Health Qigong Liu Zi Jue for Duan evaluations.

• Ms. Tan Ghee Chen (Vice Station Head, Taman Desa, KL) elaborated on the principle “Virtue comes before technique; preparation precedes practice,” citing classical texts such as Huangdi Neijing to stress the moral foundation and internal regulation in Qigong training.

• CP Lee Wai Ling, building on Ms. Tan’s insights, offered a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective to reinforce the concept of mind-centered regulation (tiao xin), encouraging deeper body-mind awareness among the participants.

This Duan evaluation was a milestone—for the first time in Malaysia, the Duan 2 (Level Two) rank was formally introduced, marking the local transition from Pre-Duan stages into the formal Duan system. The assessment strictly followed the standards set by the Chinese Health Qigong Administrative Center under the General Administration of Sport of China, and covered two key areas: movement specifications and performance quality, ensuring fairness and professionalism.

After the assessment, a certificate and recognition ceremony was held. Participants who completed Health Qigong Liu Zi Jue theoretical training received certificates, and those who passed the various Duan levels (Pre-Duan 1–3, Duan 1, Duan 2) were awarded the “COLLARBIN” badge—a symbol of honor and encouragement for their commitment and perseverance.

These rewards not only serve as recognition of past efforts, but also act as inspiration for participants to make Health Qigong a part of their daily lives. They are encouraged to continue refining their techniques and cultivating virtue, steadily progressing toward the goal of “harmonizing body and mind, and cultivating both virtue and skill.”
